Farm
Farmers Mutual's policies are only available in Nebraska and South Dakota. Our policies are marketed through and serviced by a select group of independent insurance agents. These agents are business people who live in your community and are able to sit down with you and discuss an insurance program that is best suited for your needs.
Farmers Mutual has been underwriting farm business since 1891. We are the leading farm writer in Nebraska and one of the top writers in South Dakota. We attribute our continued success to quality service, competitive rates and prompt, fair claims service. Our comprehensive Farmowners Policy is designed to provide a wide range of property and liability coverages for the farmer and rancher. The Sections shown below briefly describe the types of coverage offered:
Section I
Section I is used to insure the following items:
Section II
This section is used to insure farm buildings, including additions and permanent fixtures attached to or within the described building. This section is also used to insure fences, corrals, pens, chutes and fence line feed bunks.
Optional Coverages
Section III
This section is used to insure specifically described agricultural equipment which is owned or leased, such as tractors, combines, self-propelled hay and silage equipment, center pivot irrigation systems and recreational (all-terrain) vehicles used primarily for agricultural purposes.
This section insures against direct physical loss or damage from any external cause, subject to certain exclusions listed in the policy. Optional Coverages
Section IV
This section of the policy is used to insure certain groups of farm property on a named-peril basis. For example, a farmer, or hobby farmer, may not want to insure all farm personal property, a requirement of the Blanket Farm Personal Property section, therefore, may elect to insure only certain classes (or specified items) of property.
Section IV is used to insure the following classes of farm property:
Section V
This section of the policy is used to insure all farm personal property usual or incidental to the operation of a farm for one blanket amount. Coverage extends to farm property owned, leased or used by the insured.
The coverage provided is on a named-peril basis and is subject to coinsurance requirement. When the farm personal property inventory fluctuates greatly during the year, Peak Season coverage may be purchased to provide higher limits of coverage during the period(s) of the year when the farm property inventory is considerably higher. This may also be needed to satisfy the coinsurance requirement. A limited amount of coverage is automatically provided for borrowed machinery on an excess basis. Optional Coverages
Section VI
This Section of the policy provides several basic coverages. Following is a list of the coverages automatically provided:
Coverage L - Bodily Injury and Property Damage This pays the insured's legal liability for damages to others because of bodily injury or property damage arising out of the ownership or operation of the insured premises, or from the insured person's personal activities and farming operation. This also pays the cost to defend the insured for liability covered by the policy until we have paid an amount equal to the limit of liability of the policy. Coverage M - Medical Payments to Others This pays (without regard to legal liability) for necessary medical services for each person not residing on the insured premises who is injured in an accident while on the insured premises with permission, or while elsewhere if the injury arose out of the insured premises or was caused by the activities of an insured. Coverage N - Damage to Property of Others This pays for unintentional damage to property owned by others caused by an insured, subject to the exclusions in the policy. Coverage O - Death of Livestock This pays up to a certain limit for loss by death of any cattle, horse, hog, sheep or goat owned by the insured caused by collision between such animal and a vehicle while such animal is within a public highway. This is subject to the conditions and exclusions in the policy. Optional Coverages
